| Exam Year 1958 - ESS Magazine 1959 |
"In the School Certificate we entered, in 1958 114 candidates. Of these……………, giving altogether a pass percentage of 68. This was considerably below last year's achievement 0f 79%. It will be a lesson to us, a salutary lesson, not to be over-confident. We had a good reason to believe in 1957 that English Language results were exceptional, as, indeed, they were, exceptional, but this year they were responsible for the decline. I am confident 1959 will see us climbing to the top once again." Mr. K Lal, Annual School Prize Giving Day
"In the 1958 issue we claimed, apparently wrongly that our percentage passes of 79.1 were highest ever to be achieved by an Asian School in the Colony. Since then, the Principal, Technical High School, Mombasa has pointed out that his own school in 1957 achieved 82 percent. We have no wish to claim honour which is not our own and we humbly apologise for the error. Perhaps next year we may be able to claim that record!" From Editorial |
