| Saleem Ahmed Mehar (1961 - 1965) |
I was born in Nairobi and educated at Juja Road Primary and Eastleigh Secondary schools. I left for the UK in 1966. I started my working career as a shop floor machine operator in the food industry and progressed to become Production Manager. I worked in the food industry for 16 years, mainly for Lyons Maid and Unigate. In 1982, I had a complete change of careers and started as a trainee stock broker. I achieved the status of a Senior Vice President in various American and UK companies in the brokerage and banking business. In April 2006, I moved to Dubai as New Business Development Director for one of the largest Kenya based companies. I am now retired and live in Wembley.
In sports I was the school cricket captain and the captain of Congo House. I represented ESS in interschool athletics, cricket and hockey. I captained Kenya Schools against the MCC, PIA and Australian Schools XI.
In the UK I played five first class games for the MCC. I played minor county cricket for Bucks. I toured Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and the West Indies with a variety of teams. I captained Middlesex ‘Over 50’s’ for 6 years.
I have been organising a range of Bollywood concerts in the UK to raise funds for various charities to support people suffering from various calamities and disasters. I am a trustee of a charity called ‘Muslim Care’ and enjoy my cricket as a full member of the MCC.
