I was educated at City Primary, Duke of Gloucester (1951) and Eastleigh Secondary schools.

I did my Inter Science (equivalent to 'A' levels) at Khalsa College, Bombay. I went on to study Medicine at the G S Medical College and then worked at LTMG Hospital in Bombay. I then returned to Nairobi and joined Kenyatta National Hospital before moving on to the Aga Khan Hospital, in 1965. I then went to the UK and was at Westminster and at Guys hospitals in 1965-66

After qualifying as a Radiologist in 1966, I worked at Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, (1966 – 1969), MP Shah Hospital, Nairobi, (1969 – 1973) and Kenyatta Hospital, Nairobi (1969 – 2003).

I also practised privately in Nairobi from 1971 to 2004. I am at present with the Diagnostic Centre Kenya Ltd. in the mornings and at the M P Shah Hospital in the CT Scan department in the afternoons.
