Paramjit Singh Chana (1963-1966) |
I was born on the SS Amra ship on our way to Mombasa. My mother and I joined my father in Nairobi. I had a happy and contented childhood. My parents were devout Sikhs and instilled good moral values in us from a very young age.
I attended City Primary and Juja Road Primary schools before joining ESS in 1963. The four years at ESS were certainly the happiest years of my life. ESS gave me a very good foundation which provided me with a springboard for my personal development and future career. I was a keen athlete and ran the 100 m in 10.4 seconds – no mean feat in those days! I also competed in the Long Jump, Triple Jump and 4x100 relay.
We arrived in England in July 1967. I joined Harrow Technical College for a 2 Year course in Computer Hardware and PC Build. After completion, I started working in the professional chauffeur industry. In between, I managed a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science with Business. At present I work as a professional chauffeur at Heathrow with Emirates and Virgin Airlines. My hobbies are internet security and the gym. I spend three sessions per week in the gym followed by swimming 10 lengths of a full-size pool.
I am married to Avtar and we have two daughters and a son - all doing well by the grace of God. I am looking forward to the Diamond Jubilee Reunion 2016 and meeting with my fellow ESS colleagues.
