Mohamed Shafi Butt (1959-1960) |
I was born in Nairobi and went to Nairobi South C Primary, Park Road Primary and Eastleigh Primary before joining ESS in 1959.
I was in Congo House and played for the School team. In 1964, I obtained the Best Cricketer of the Year Award in Nairobi. In 1966, I was selected to play for the Kenya Asian team against the Kenya European team. I played in the Under 25s match against the others. I played for the Kenya Cricket Association team against the Coast XI. In 1966, I was selected to play for Kenya Invitation XI against the touring Pakistan team. In 1967, I played for Sir Ali Muslim Club team that played in the inaugural KCA Knock-out Competition and won the Trophy.
I got married to Abidah in 1967 and we moved to the UK in 1968. I completed Diplomas in Management and Drapers of Chambers of Trade at Wadham and Keble colleges in Oxford. I moved to British Airways in 1976 and retired in 2009. We have two sons, Amjad and Sadiq and five grandchildren.
