I was born in Kitale, Kenya. I commenced studies at Park Road Primary School in 1952, and then we were transferred to the newly built Eastleigh Primary School. From there I went on to ESS where I completed O-Levels in 1962. I then went to Pakistan and studied for a Diploma in Civil Technology at the Government Polytechnic Institute, Karachi. I returned to Nairobi in December 1967 and after a short stay came to London in February 1968.

I commenced work as a junior engineer on a construction site, while at the same time I joined evening classes at Borough Polytechnic studying for Council of Engineering Institution Examination in Structural Engineering. I have enjoyed working as a Site Engineer/Manager on Civil Engineering and Housing projects. I am now enjoying my retirement.

I am married to Sayeeda who is a teacher. She also came here from Kisumu, Kenya. We got married in 1974. We have one son Mohammed Omar Hashmi. He studied medicine at Imperial College London. He is now working as a consultant with Hurley Group in London. We have two lovely grandchildren.

I am looking forward to the reunion. I hope I can meet some of my old class mates.
