| Amrit (Aka Dhiru) Pabari (1955-1958) |
After my four years at ESS, I attended an accountancy college in Nairobi and then joined our family business of retail shops in Parklands and Caledonian Road. Restrictions on non-citizen businesses made me leave Kenya. After a short visit to the UK in 1968, I went to India with a view to settling there. Although I spent nearly a year in India I could not make any headway into any suitable business. I finally came to London in 1970 for good.
I started my jobs with Ind Coope, a subsidiary of Allied Breweries. I prepared monthly management accounts for 90 of the 500 plus pubs owned by Ind Coope. My second job was as an accountant in Kwintner & Simmons, a chain of 20 menswear shops in West End of London. I then joined Lewis Golden & Co – Chartered Accountants - where I received further training in accountancy and immense experience in auditing work and Management Accountancy. In late 1977 I went into retail business in the West End, London. The recession made me give up my business and I went back to accountancy work.
I currently work as financial and management coordinator (through my own company Global Reach Management Coordination Ltd) for a group of businesses whose interests span from fragrances & cosmetics to properties and investments in the UK and EU. I often travel to Berlin, Budapest, Bucharest, Cyprus, Prague and Spain for my work
We have three children – two sons and a daughter and three lovely grandsons.
