One of our ex-students at ESS, Rashpal Singh Devgun died in the most brutal circumstances on Saturday 7th November 2009 in Nairobi. He was shot and murdered in cold blood at his own doorstep when he was returning home in the evening. We are told that they also took away his wristwatch and some other valuables before fleeing from the site.

I was stunned to read the news emailed to me by Rashpal's family. It is really shocking that something like this can happen to Rashpal who I knew to be such a lovely, sincere, friendly and delightful person! He was one of the few members who attended our presentation of computers to EHS in July 2007. The photographs below were taken at the school and at the ESS Reunion in Nairobi at the Panafric Hotel.

Rashpal Devgun left ESS in the 1970s, qualified as an IT Engineer and later joined their thriving family business in Construction in Nairobi. He was always keen and willing to help others and contributed significantly to a range of local charities. He took a keen interest in Golf and Motor Car Rallying.

Rashpal's funeral will take place on Wednesday 11th November 2009, details of which will be provided in the local Nairobi newspaper. I on behalf of all ESS friends who knew him express my most sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to everyone in the Devgun family at the cruel taking away of Rashpal from their lives! I pray to the Almighty to give all those grieving and bereaved family and friends the strength and fortitude to bear their loss. May his soul rest in peace!
