It is with great sadness to inform you that Mr. Pyare Lal Uppal who was the Principal of Eastleigh Secondary School from 1961 to 1963, died peacefully in hospital in Dehra Doon, India on 16th December 2008 at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Mr. Uppal taught Mathematics at the Duke of Gloucester School for nearly 20 years. He was the Principal of ESS from January 1961 to December 1963. During this period, he was instrumental in raising standards and improving dramatically, the 'O' level results of the school. He specialised in teaching Trigonometry, believed strongly in good discipline and instilled a firmness of purpose in both pupils and staff.
