We were very distressed to hear about the passing away of Manohar Singh Kambo on Monday 25th June 2012.

MANOHAR SINGH KAMBO was at Eastleigh Secondary School from 1959 to 1961. He then joined the Geological survey of Kenya in 1962 and qualified as a Cartographer. He was seconded to United Nations Mineral Resources survey in Western Kenya in 1964 and joined the University of Nairobi, Department of Geology in 1967. Coming to the UK, Manohar worked for Hunting Surveyors and Consultants in Borehamwood as a Cartographer from 1976 to 1989. In 1990 he joined the Education Department of London Borough of Harrowand worked as a teacher of Indian Music for many years.

Manohar represented school teams at cricket, hockey and football. He captained the school cricket team that won the Inter Schools Cricket trophy in 1961. He played for Sikh Union and represented Kenya Schools cricket team in 1960 against India. He went on to represent Kenya Asians, Kenya and East Africa cricket teams between 1962 and 1972.

Manohar is survived by his wife Balvinder Kaur and three sons. I will miss a dear friend, a guide and well-wisher who had a heart of gold and whose friendship I valued as it was based on mutual trust, respect and love. He was always most welcoming, warm and generous and loved meeting friends, sharing each-others' lives, pleasures and difficulties. He stood against any bullying and unjust behaviour like a rock, whether it was perpetrated on him, his family or his colleagues, regardless of the consequences.

He was a caring, committed and spiritual family man and I know you will all miss him dearly. May the Almighty give his soul peace and tranquility and give the family the strength and resilience to bear his loss.
