Jagjit Singh Gill (1953 - 1957) |
Jagjit Singh Gill was born in Entebbe, before they moved to Kisumu where he attended Kisumu High School until 1953. He joined Racecourse Secondary School in 1953 (which later became ESS) and finished his schooling in 1957.
Jagjit worked for East African Railways and Harbours before leaving for the UK in 1972. He joined British Gas and served them for 28 years in various Accounts and Debt Collection departments before retiring in 1999.
Jagjit was always a keen sportsman. He played Hockey for the Railways and Sikh Union and captained the Harrow Veterans team that participated in international tournaments in Holland and Germany. He also played Cricket and opened the batting for the Railways. He went on safari rallies with Joginder Singh and his brother Jaswant Singh.
Jagjit was always very keen on getting school friends together especially later on in life. He organised several ESS reunions including the one 1996 and again in 2006. A whole host of old boys reconnected with each other after several years for which they were most grateful to Jagjit for.
Jagjit died suddenly on 17th March 2019. He is survived by his wife Joginder son Mandeep, daughter-in-law Krishna and grand-daughters Avleen and Tara.
