It is with great sorrow that we inform you that, Dalpat Mistry, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 25, 2010 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He died at the age of 63. We are very proud of him for his courage and his optimistic outlook, especially during his last few months. His positive attitude inspired us to stay hopeful and strong. Although we are very sad to lose him, we recognize this as a time to celebrate his life and the wonderful man that he was.
Dalpat was born in Navsari, Gujarat in 1947. He moved to Kitale, Kenya in 1950 and then moved to Nairobi for further schooling. He attended Eastleigh Secondary School in 1960 and had fond memories of his school days. He was quick to gain independence, had a strong will to achieve, and took advantage of every opportunity that came his way. Dalpat immigrated to London, UK in 1964 and obtained his B.Sc in Physics in 1971. He also got married in 1971. After living in England for 17 years he moved to Toronto, Canada in 1981. His sheer dedication helped our family migrate across many continents to where we are today.
Our Dad was many things to many people. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a supportive son, a playful grandfather, a caring big brother, a loving uncle, a dear friend and an active member of our community. He was a man of integrity, and has been a role model for many over the course of his life. We'll always remember our Dad for being simple, gentle, and sincere. He believed in balance – he'd always say to us to 'Enjoy everything in moderation'. Our Dad was kind, friendly, and had a characteristic laugh. He had a strong love for food, and would never waste anything. He was also a man of precision. Since he was educated as a Physicist, and was an Engineer by trade, he applied these methodical principles to various aspects of his life. He loved routine, and enjoyed mastering even the simplest of tasks. Many of you will remember our Dad's incredible thirst for knowledge and his love for reading. He was trusted for his expansive knowledge, helpful guidance, and sound advice. Our Dad also loved to relax and enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
Dalpat was happily married to Hansa for 39 years and has three daughters and one grandson. Over the course of his life, Dalpat had many achievements, he always kept to his values, and he had a strong influence on all of us through his wisdom and kind spirit. We will all miss him dearly.
