Mr A N Sharma (Nabh) who was sometimes referred to as Sharma (Dogo) died on 1st December 2010 after a short spell in hospital. He was 85 and suffered from Cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Mrs Sharma. They did not have any children.
Mr AN Sharma (Nabh) was born in 1925 in Punjab. He came to Kenya in 1948 and after a spell in Kitale, joined Government Indian High School as a teacher in 1952. He then taught at Racecourse High School, which later became Eastleigh Secondary School. He was an excellent teacher who taught History for several years. He was a very keen sportsman and is still remembered for his superb performances playing Volleyball for the Staff against Students. He had senior management responsibilities especially in terms of developing sports, track and field events. Mr Sharma retired in 1974 after 27 years service.
On coming to the UK in 1976, he worked for the National Investments Loans Office (NILO), a branch of the Treasury, for 13 years. Initially, he was uncomfortable in new clerical job but with time came to terms with it.
After retirement from NILO he volunteered his time and energy to community social work. He was elected President of the Hindu Society of South West London in 1998, and worked in this capacity for 4 years. During this period, the Society succeeded in building a beautiful hall, which took them 3 years to complete. Social work for the community gave him immense pleasure and satisfaction.
He lived a simple but a full life until the last few months before his death. He was very fond of the school and fellow teachers, students, friends and relatives will miss him dearly.
May his soul rest in peace and may God give strength to Mrs Sharma and the wider family to overcome their loss. |
