I was born in Dar es salaam, Tanzania and bred in Nairobi, Kenya. My primary education was at City Primary and Nairobi South Primary schools, followed by attendance at Technical High School where I was Deputy Head Boy in my final year. I was nominated to attend Outward Bound residential school which culminatedin climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. I took part in all sports, athletics and extra-curricular activities.

I attained BSc in Chemical Engineering from Aston University followed by Diploma in Advanced Concrete Technology from Imperial College leading to a career in construction materials. My final appointment was with a Swiss Cement company based in Zurich as Senior Project Manager which entailed world-wide travel and a two-year spell in India as Head of Technical Services. I continued working as a consultant till recently.

I am married to Surinder and we are celebrating our golden wedding anniversary this year. We are blessed with a son, a daughter and five grandchildren.
