Tarsem Lal Kalyan (1960 - 1963) |
I was born in Nairobi and educated at City Primary and Eastleigh Secondary schools. I was a very active sportsman and have carried on in the same vein ever since. I left for the UK in 1964 and joined Charles Wells Brewery in Bedford. I also completed my ‘A’ levels in Geography and English whilst working full time.
At work, promotion was very rapid and I was made Manager of the Packaging Department. I took early retirement in January 1997 at the age of 51. I am presently serving as a trustee of Association for the Cultural Change Management (UK) which is helping the B.A.M.E. communities achieve a better standard of life. I am serving as a Trustee and Treasurer for the Anti Caste Discrimination Alliance to fight the evil of the caste system in this country. I am one of the members on the Chief Constable’s Advisory Panel for Bedfordshire. I am also Trustee and Treasurer of the Bedford Indian Community (BIC) which includes 18 different communities in Bedfordshire.
I am keeping fit and playing Golf at competitive level, although, due to a shoulder injury under treatment, I am unable to play at the minute, but hope to be back playing soon. I am married to Sangeeta. We have twin sons, Ram and Sham, and we live in Bedford. It would be fantastic to meet and maintain contact with old school friends and teachers at the Reunion.
