| Suryakant S. Patel (1956 - 1960) |
I joined Eastleigh Secondary School in 1956 and left in December 1960. I started work at Century Automobile in March 1961. After working there for a year I joined Marshall's (E.A) Ltd in Nairobi. Soon afterwards was transferred to the Mombasa branch. I worked there until the end of November 1967, left for India, got married in January 1968 to Jyotika Patel and in February 1968 came to Leeds.
I started work at Fiat Car Distributors. I stayed with Fiat for two years and then left to go work at Volvo Cars Distributors. I bought a shop in Sharlston, Wakefield and juggled the two jobs. After six years I left my job at Volvo in 1986 to concentrate on the shop. In 2002 another business opportunity came about and I bought another shop with a post office in Bramley, Leeds. I was advised by my children to invest into properties, so I bought some properties that are currently being renovated for rental purposes.
I have three children Jatin, Manisa and Reshma. Back at home I had a passion for racing cars and cars in general, I have not had the chance to race in England but over the years I have invested in a couple of classic cars. Something I will never grow out of.
I have achieved everything I wanted to and have a good family me along the way. I am looking to retire in the next year or so and am ready to relax and enjoy myself.
