| Sharad Bhagwat (1951-1952) |
I joined Racecourse High School in 1951 and left the school in 1952. I was selected Secretary of Gujarati Sahitya Mandal of the school.
On leaving the school, I started work at the Supreme Court of Kenya in Nairobi. I then joined Hamilton, Harrison & Mathews, Advocates, to work as Litigation Clerk for about 10 years.
My time at the school was short. However, after I left school, I pursued a number of activities linked with my passion in music and drama. I organised many music performances e.g. Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan, Van Shipley, Manna De and performing at charity events for our music group "Sangeet Niketan". I met Deedar Singh Pardesi and participated in music programs. I knew Iqbal Narayan, a member of the Eastleigh Secondary School music troupe in 1956. Iqbal Narayan accompanied me on the accordion after leaving the school. I used to perform jingles and took part in music programs on the radio. I joined Orient Arts Circle and acted in several plays on stage.
I came to London in 1965 to read for the Bar exams. I was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn and later qualified as a solicitor. A partnership with a Chelmsford firm of solicitors followed and I retired from practice in 1996.
I married my wife Sudha in 1959 and we have 2 daughters, Smita who is a solicitor and Nina who is a television executive.
