I was born in Nairobi and lived in my parent’s home near the Nairobi Museum. I had my early education at City Primary and Fort Hall Road Primary schools. I joined the Duke of Gloucester School in 1964, doing O-Levels in 1967 and A-Levels in 1969. I was very active in extra-curricular activities, including playing Hockey for the school team. I was the President of the Science Society.
In 1970 I came to Loughborough University of Technology, where I studied a four year sandwich degree course in Automotive Engineering, and graduated in 1974. I have worked in industry for 42 years, and, at present, I am working for Jaguar Land Rover. I have been in the Chassis Engineering Department for 30 years now, and, shall be looking forward to retirement in the near future.
My current activities include playing hockey, golf and serving as a committee member of the Sikh Union Club in Coventry, This Club is very active at community work and also does a lot of charity work - both locally and abroad. For example we have done cataract operations in India and water bore hole projects in Kenya. This year, the Club received the Queen's Award for Community Work.
I am married to Satnam, who also went to Jamhuri High School for her ‘A’ Levels. We have two children, a boy and a girl, both grown-up and have left home. We live in a small town, Kenilworth, in Warwickshire.
