Tajinder Singh Marwa (1961 - 1962) |
Tajinder moved to Nakuru in 1963 after completing his O Levels at City High School.
He worked in various capacities as Accounts Manager and later set up a Tyre Retreading Plant in Nakuru and Nairobi. He moved to Nairobi to manage the latter.
After several years he was appointed as one of the Managers with the Wigglesworth Organisation. Whilst in Nakuru he took keen interest in hockey and played for Rangers Hockey Club and had an opportunity to play against visiting overseas teams. In 1967 he was selected to play for the national team against Pakistan in an international Test Match in which he scored the equaliser goal. This was also a unique match in that all three Marwa Brothers, Harvinder, Amarjeet & Tajinder played together for the Kenya national team and this record still stands to date!
In 1968 whilst training for the Olympics, he injured his knee and after an operation, he never recovered fully. However, he continued to promote hockey amongst youngsters and went on to play social hockey for many years.
He moved to the UK in 1996 and joined Amarjeet to manage and run the furniture business.
