I joined ESS in 1958. After four wonderful and memorable years I went to Duke of Gloucester School for my A-Levels and I then trained in medicine at the University of Leeds. I chose surgery as my specialty and I worked as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon at Guy's Hospital, London, for 12 years, before moving to Watford and Mount Vernon Hospitals, where I am currently based.
