I studied at ESS from 1958 to 1961. I belonged to Niger House. I loved Volleyball and was always with Mr. T.M. Hashmi’s group during Volleyball practices in the school.
I passed my ‘O’ Levels in Division One. I worked at the British Army Military Vehicle Parts Store in Kahawa during 1962. In 1963, I went to Chandigarh, Punjab to study Medicine but became ill and returned to Nairobi.
In January 1964, I went to the Central Teacher Training College, Desai Road, Ngara. I went on to Kenyatta Teacher Training University College, Kahawa from January 1965 to December 1966 and graduated as a secondary school teacher (S1). I then taught Biology to Forms 3 and 4, English to Forms 2 and 3 and Geography to Form 1 at Dagoretti High School from 1967 to 1972. Mr. Kashmiri Lal, my Principal at ESS, was my colleague at DHS.
I married Sarbjit, a primary graduate teacher at Khalsa Boys & Girls School. We left Kenya in April 1972 with our daughter Manraj and immigrated to Prince Rupert, BC, Canada. I worked as Materiel Manager at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital from 1972 to 1981. I was then the Director of Materiel Management at Ridge Meadows Hospital, Maple Ridge, BC from 1981 to 1993. In 1994, I was a Partner/Director and General Manager at Roxon-Universal Medical Ltd, New Westminster, BC. I retired in 2005.
We have two daughters Manraj and Rupinder and a son Pavandeep. We love our grandchildren – Maneesha, Cyrus, Asha and Suneil.
