Manvindarjit (Billy) Ahluwalia (1969 - 1972) |
I was born in Mombasa, when at 5 years old my family moved to Eastleigh, Nairobi. I studied at Eastleigh Primary and Highway Secondary schools. All three of my best friends were at ESS and we remain close to this day. I left Kenya in 1973 to join the Laly family (all Laly brothers are ESS Alumni) in the UK and did my 'A' levels in Portsmouth. I qualified as a Civil & Structural Engineer from University of Cardiff.
I am married to Neeta who with a background in financial systems is an IT Director with Oracle Corporation responsible for major Initiatives. We have two boys, Arjun and Vir. Arjun is a Barrister by training and is with HSBC; Vir is at De Montefort in Leicester studying Mechanical Engineering and is an Officer Cadet in the British Army.
I have been fortunate to have been involved with the design and construction of transport - roads, bridges & railways infrastructure internationally and in the UK. In Kenya I am able to put my name to roads, bridges and, water treatment plants in the Central and Western Regions. Both Neeta and I are involved in the community. We promote sports (like hockey, rugby and water sports) and provide careers training and mentoring in schools.
Living in Eastleigh and studying at Highway provided plenty of opportunities for rivalry. But with great friends at and from ESS, these challenges were overcome, leading to relationships that endure to-date and span far and wide.
