| Harish Luther (1962 - 1965) |
I started my schooling in City Primary and Racecourse Primary Schools, joined ESS in 1962 and left in 1965 from Zambezi House. At school I was a keen cyclist having won the Group B Cycling race in 1963 and Group A Cycling race in 1964. In 1965 I again won the Group A Cycling race and broke the school cycling record. In August 1965 I passed the Outward Bound Mountain School course having climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. This set me up for mountaineering. Hence I have climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro 9 times, Mt. Kenya 23 times, Mt. Meru and Mt. Elgon just once. I was also a member of the Kenya Mountain Rescue Team and was involved in the famous rescue of Dr. Judameir on Mt. Kenya. I have achieved the Gold Award of the President’s Award Scheme (formerly Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme).
In 1982 my wife and I started a Chemist shop in Nairobi West called West Chemist. Eventually we opened a Photo Studio which we operated for six years before immigrating to England. Here we owned a three counter Post Office for six years. Now I am a Licentiate Member of the Royal Photographic Society. I do Events and Photography and have published a book about Kenya entitled “Mysteries of Kenya Revealed” which is available from my website: www.fotolandimaging.com
I am married to Parvinder and we have three children; Poonam - a Physiotherapist, Sunita - an Optometrist and Amandeep - a Banker. We are blessed with four lovely grand-daughters.
