Gurnam Singh Chaggar (1962 - 1963) |
I was born in Nairobi in 1948 and attended City Primary School. My father worked in Allsops Brewery and we resided in the Brewery quarters during this time. I attended Eastleigh Secondary for the period 1962-1963. Some of the teachers I remember include the Maths teachers, Mr Nanak Chand and Mr Uppal, the Principal. Mr Jones then became the Principal.
I left ESS in Nairobi in 1963 and went to Kisumu for an apprenticeship in Electrical Motor Rewinding with ‘F.C.Gahir’. In 1969, I left Kenya and went to my village Phagwara in Punjab, India. I got married in 1970 and left for the UK in 1977. I started my business in 1980, selling cleaning products to local industry. Both my sons are now married and work with me in our business. I have two grandsons.
I have some happy memories of ESS and Kenya, which I have visited many times visiting Nairobi, Mombasa and Kericho. I look forward to meeting my old friends and colleagues and catch up on our lives at the Reunion in September 2011.
