Didar Singh Jandu (1954 - 1957) |
Late in 1940 my family started a mechanical engineering company known as 'Jandu Workshop' on Cross Road off River Road. My father was the mainstay of the operation. After leaving school in 1957 I joined the family business as an apprentice and learnt the tricks of the trade from my father and our expansion programme started.
I was responsible for the whole organisation when my father passed away and we were the main manufacturers of tea machinery for Kenya Tea Development Authority and other tea factories in the neighbouring countries. By the grace of the Almighty, we are well established.
I got married in 1964 to Balwant Kaur from Dar es Salaam. We have four children. The eldest is my son who is an engineer living in London. My daughter is happily settled in London. My third child is specializing in Graphics and is based in London and the youngest is helping me in my family business and will eventually take over from me.
