Gurdip Singh Kalsi (1963 - 1968)

Gurdip is an acknowledged expert in the development and application of state-of-the-art 3D computational methods for the analysis and resolution of complex, highly non-linear Engineering and Physics phenomena. He is the author of 27 publications and has examined four PhD candidates. He was recently elected a Technical Fellow of NAFEMS.

He was born in Nairobi and studied at Khalsa and then Racecourse primary school, where he was Nyasa House Captain and Head Prefect in 1962. He studied at Delamere Boys School from 1963 to 1968. He was Windsor House Captain and Head Boy for two years, in his lower and then upper sixth forms. In 1969 he entered King’s College London University and studied there for his BSc (Hons) and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering.

He spent a further three years at King’s as a Research Fellow before leaving to work in high-tech Consultancy for the next twenty years, heading various Computational Mechanics Groups. He then joined the Engineering Systems Department of the Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham Campus, Cranfield University as a Senior Lecturer. This was followed by a move in 2002 to the UK’s Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE plc), Aldermaston from where he retired in late 2022. He was appointed a Visiting Research Fellow to Cavendish Labs, Cambridge University whilst working at AWE.

He lives in Hampton and is married to Jaswinder (nee Plaha), and they have two sons, both NHS Consultants, and four grandchildren.
