My 4 years at ESS (65-68, of the previous century!), were spent in the company of many interesting comrades and a few remarkable teachers, who I still remember fondly and quote often. Whether it was the Debating Society (we took on the "rich" students from the wealthy side of town) or the Boy Scouts (camping was always more fun than earning badges), the days were carefree, yet fulfilling. It is no accident that we all remember BS Shant and his confusing, hilarious verbal outbursts; in 2016 he would be a beloved Punjabi stand-up comic!
At every family gathering of the Bedis, Kapilas, Bhandaris and Syals, amidst much fond laughter, we remember our teachers and friends; we are lucky to have known the Mendoncas and Hashmis of our lives.
I left ESS for A Levels at Strathmore College, then medical school at Nairobi University, did as little work as possible and lived it up in Nairobi before leaving for the US. Now, after 35 years in medicine, and as a Professor in Radiology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, it is gratifying to acknowledge ESS, Strathmore and all of you; we are who we are, in part because of you. These reunions serve a useful purpose because we give some of our fortune back to our roots.
I applaud the energy of the organising committee and the class of '68. My wife Ranjana (Pangani 63-66, Jamhuri 67-68), children Sheel and Anuja join me in wishing ESS continued academic prosperity.
