Avtar Singh Bhoda (1959 - 1962) |
I was born in the Punjab and joined my family in Kenya. I enrolled at Juja Road Primary School and transferred to the newly built Eastleigh Primary School. I joined ESS in 1959. I had a very good time with all my classmates and teachers – who were great motivators as well. I was selected as the Secretary of the Punjabi Literary Society.
After my O Levels, I joined a Nairobi Advocate Mr. G. S. Pall and worked as his assistant until 1988 when he was appointed Judge of the High Court of Kenya and closed his practice. I was the Secretary of Sikh Students Federation for a while and then the Secretary of Sikh Temple Makindu from 1976 to 1988. On coming to the UK, I worked as a Legal Cashier/Accountant for a variety of law firms. I am continuing in the same capacity now for a firm of solicitors in the City.
I am married with four children – one daughter and 3 sons – all happily married. My dear wife passed away in 2016 after an illness. I am a proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren. Two of them have qualified and are in employment while the others are schooling. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at ESS Reunion.
