Narinder Nath Luthra (1959-1962)

I was born in Nakuru and went to Racecourse Primary before joining ESS in 1959. I was very keen Sportsman and a Scout. I was awarded the Queen’s Scout in my final year. I went up Mt Kilimanjaro with the Outward Bound School in 1962. I did my A Levels (1963-64) at Duke of Gloucester and received my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award in 1963.

I moved to England and was got an apprenticeship with Handley Page aircraft manufacturers. They sponsored my B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering at City University in 1969. I worked for Rolls Royce in Bristol and did some consultancy in London. I moved to Brazil in 1976 and joined another aircraft manufacturer, Embraer in Sao Jose Dos Campos. I worked on a joint aircraft project (AMX) in Italy for 2 years. In 1986, I moved to the USA and joined Boeing in Everett, Washington. I worked in the Structures area (Loads) on projects like 747-400, 747-9, 777-200F and others. I retired from Boeing in 2008 and joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an aerospace engineer. I worked on various projects including the 787 Dreamliner. I retired from FAA in April 2016.

I now live in Ingrave, Essex, with my brother Mukal Roy and his wife Primla. I am a widower and have no children. I play Golf and would like to continue to fly single engine airplanes.
